Packaging is a necessary component for convenience and safety of product delivery. Choosing the right packaging materials can be challenging because of cost, size, and just overall aesthetic appeal.
We try to select packaging that is produced from recycled material or can be recycled. This is not always possible for every component, but we continue to push forward to research solutions that are a better option for our customers and the environment.
Though recycling rates have increased over the years, the US still only recycles about 35% of its discarded materials. (Source: EPA Website)
Our products include product labels, packaging, and website product details include instructions on proper disposal to help with any confusion on what can be recycled and what should be placed in the waste disposal. Below is a breakdown of materials used in our product packaging.
GLASS – Products like our oil drops and topicals (balms and lotions) are filled in glass bottles and jars. We use amber color glass to keep light out to protect the contents and maintain beneficial ingredient properties. These glass containers can be recycled. Please rinse or wipe before placing in the correct receptacle.
DROPPERS – Our oil drops come with marked droppers for easy dosage. Because these droppers are made with mixed materials, it cannot be recycled. The glass portion of the dropper can be removed from the cap and rubber bulb. There are some creative ways to reuse the droppers and bottle for essential oils or craft projects. The internet has some nifty ideas if you do a search!
PLASTIC CONTAINERS – We package our larger count capsules in plastic bottles made with HDPE plastic, commonly used for supplements and pharmaceutical products. HDPE plastic is accepted at most recycling centers and is considered one of the easiest plastic polymers to recycle.
POUCHES – Our gummies, smaller count capsule quantities, and samples are packaged in pouches because it uses less material than container packaging. Pouches require minimal plastic to make, are not as heavy, which means less weight and space in shipment, are easier for storage, and allow a better seal to protect contents. The downfall of our pouches is that it is not recyclable. We do have plans to transition to a recyclable material.
PROTECTION (Bands/Liners) – Products like our oil drops (tincture bottles) and capsule bottles have a heat-sealed plastic band around the cap and bottle. This plastic is not recyclable. We also use a foam liner for sealing protection with our topicals and our capsules. Please dispose of these materials.
LABELS – Our labels are made with a polypropylene material that is durable against water and oils. Though this label cannot be recycled, it is removable. The adhesive is not as tacky as regular labels, which allows you to easily remove labels and recycle the container.
SHIPPING MATERIALS – We use corrugated boxes that can be reused or recycled. Items shipped in kraft mailers are made from recycled natural brown paper; only the paper, if removed from the bubble protection, can be recycled. We do not use additional plastics or popcorn fillers in our shipments.
